What To Expect

About The Lessons

Alexander Technique is less about learning new things than about unlearning bad habits. I help you notice the way you stand, move and sit and to change the way the you do things that may be causing discomfort or pain.

The lessons will typically involve my using my hands to guide you in making some beneficial changes to simple movements like walking, sitting and standing.

I will also use my hands to make subtle change to your co-ordination whilst you are lying down. This gentle exercise will help raise your awareness of the tensions in your body and encourage you to learn how to let go and release them.

Your first lesson will last an hour. We will take some time to talk about your medical history, the reasons you’ve come for lessons and what you are hoping to achieve. You may want to bring along any medical information you feel is relevant. If you are unsure about anything please give me a call.

Alexander Technique lessons are at my studio in Retford. Students come from Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, and South Yorkshire – including Bawtry, Newark, Lincoln, Gainsborough, and Worksop.

How Many Lesson Will I Need?

Normally we would expect people to gain a solid foundation in 6-10 lessons. How long it takes to learn the technique depends on what your goals are. Learning the technique can be compared to learning a musical instrument. You may want to have a basic grounding and understanding from which you can continue to learn on your own or you may want to develop your skills further and become a virtuoso.

How Much Does A Lesson Cost?

£40.00 for a 45 minute lesson. (Concessionary rates are available)

The first introductory lesson lasts 1 hour.

What Do I Wear?

Please wear loose clothing. Women may feel more comfortable in trousers rather than a skirt.
